    Following acid digestion, the water sample is combined with a pH-adjusting reagent and subsequently oxidized with potassium persulfate. Under alkaline conditions (pH 10.5 ± 0.2) in the presence of dithizone as the chromogenic agent, lead(II) ions form a cherry-red dithizonate chelate complex (λ<sub>max</sub> = 520 nm). A microprocessor-controlled spectrophotometer quantifies lead concentration through differential absorbance measurement calibrated against NIST-traceable standards, with chelate complex concentration demonstrating linear correlation (R<sup>2</sup> ≥ 0.995) to total lead content.
